I AM BACK!

So much has happened over the year... so so much. Despite my HSC study over the year has taken up majority of my time and being the priority of most issues, it didn't stop me to doing things here and there that would release my stress (ie, watch series). I confess that I have been constantly following Shirley Yeung's news (functions, new series, etc), collecting all the basics, because I know that looking back and searching for almost a year's worth of stuff - such a hassle!
Moreover, what impacted me the most was what I was watching. Though, it was never during crucial parts of study periods or schooling times - only when I knew I had the time and needed to get away from all the studying. Anyways, TVB has always been the highlight of my interest of entertainment - evidently shown in this blog. However, during this year, it has slipped away from me. I'm a tad disappointed, mainly due to the bulk of "not-very-interesting" series aired this year.... to me, at least.

TVB series I have managed to watch are:
- Pages Of Treasures
- A Great Way To Care
- Rosy Business
- Forensic Heroes 2
- Beyond The Realm Of Conscience

I am disappointed that TVB did not air "Great Way" in HK! If my dad didn't bring home videos of "Rosy", I would've have watched that, haha - turned out quite good though! I wouldn't have watched "FH2" if my sister didn't bring home a DVD for it. I'm happy that I did, because that was the series that I had 'missed' of Shirley's :P I am currently watching "Beyond".

Non-TVB series I have managed to watch are:
- Legend Of The Condor Heroes 2008
- Fairy From The Wonderland
- Strange Stories Of Liao Zhai
- Young Warriors
- Love Or Bread

Anyone spot a similarity in the first 4 series? I fell in love with Hu Ge (胡歌), a well-known mainland China actor. Therefore, I have drifted away from TVB series and watched most of his older series, and of course his new ones too :) I have also become a fan of Ariel Lin, hehe and really enjoyed her "Love O Bread" with Joe Cheng - it was after this series when I realised why so many people like Ariel & Joe as a couple! Haha.

For the record, this is just evidence as to why I am changing my approach for managing Fairytale Promise - I'm not sure if its slightly or dramatically. My interest has changed, what I have to deal with has changed... and I think I have made more work for myself. Therefore, FP will not be heavily concentrated with updates; it will just be a place where I will share my thoughts on series/issues and most likely share summaries on scenes (episode summaries is just too much work, I'm afraid). I am probably going to keep FP to TVB-related and leave my other thoughts on my other site. I apologise if I have disappointed my visitors, I'm sorry. Hope my posts will still be interesting to read! :) Nonetheless, I have missed discussing about the entertainment world a lot and its great to be back! :D

Changes will be made in the next few days/weeks.

Goodbye Readers...

I don't know how to start this. I said I would update but I have realised that I don't have the "urge" to update Fairytale Promise anymore. I still love TVB very much, but updating seems more like a "chore" to me now - pushing myself just to satisfy my readers. However, I have got to the point that I don't really have the time (even though I'm on holidays at the moment.... I still have alot of work to do) nor the enthusiasm to keep updating.

I think FP survived an alright 2 years in the TVB-net world :P I met so many owners of TVB blogs and became friends with a number of my readers - thanks for leaving messages! :)

Therefore, I am deeply saddened to announce that Fairytale Promise will be on HIATUS. The time I will come back will probably be at the end of 2009 or if I suddenly want to make a comment about a particular series or anything TVB-related throughout the year, it'll all be posted in this blog.

Here I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Thank you all so much for visiting FP and I'll see you guys around! :) Cheers and take care!

2009 TVB Calendar

January
Linda Chung, Bosco Wong, Raymond Lam, Kate Tsui

I quite the idea of using the "active" theme again. It really shows how much energy to start the new year! Kate's outfit is very "TVB" as well :P

February
Susanna Kwan, Kiki Sheung, Lee Sze Kei, Nancy Sit, Michelle Yim

I like this year's February! Although its very simple, I think simple is best! However, I don't quite like the make-up on Susanna nor the facial expression of Michelle...

March
Roger Kwok, Sonija Kwok, Charmaine Sheh, Michael Miu

This is most definitely one of my favourite, if not, favourite design of the calendar. I love the use of green in the background of a dark mysterious, yet very elegent portrayal of the two actresses. Also, the facial expresssions are beautifully captured! I would love it even more if there wasn't such an obvious "eye drop" in the middle of Charmaine's eye.

April
Sunny Chan, Myolie Wu, Joe Ma

This has to be my least favourite month. I don't like how the 3 artistes are so close up on the page.... just looks bad!

May
Kenneth Ma, Yoyo Mung, Selena Li, Shirley Yeung, Lai Lok Yi

Very retro-styled! I like how it sort of makes you dizzy because of the duplication of the shadows.

June
Steven Ma, Ana Yau, Sharon Chan, Patrick Tang, Kenny Wong

I think this is my second favourite month. It's so simple and the colours are so refreshing! All artistes are smiling so well, makes me happy! :)

July
Aimee Chan, Kevin Chen, Ron Ng, Tavia Yeung, Natalie Tong

I actually really like the structure of this and how the artistes stand. The black and white contrast in colours is also really nice - gives me a feeling of a "sailor" :P However, what really annoys me is, what's with the patch of orange across their faces?! Too much blush or what?

August
Nancy Wu, Koni Lui, Leanne Li, Fala Chen, Tracy Ip, Vivien Yeo, Yoyo Chen, Suki Chui

They have a Miss Hong Kong month every year and last year was also August! Haha. The feeling I get from this month is very fresh too - all happy faces and the colour combo is nice. However, I was shocked to realise the one in purple was Fala! What happened?! I don't like her hairstyle much; it makes her look so much older.

September
Mandy Cho, Michael Tse, Adam Cheng, Christine Ng, Sheren Tang

I get this "men in black" feeling. From the little thumbnails, I seriously thought they were all male! I'm really happy that Mandy got the chance to be in the calendar this year as she hasn't been around much.

October
Gallen Lo, Bernice Liu, Bobby Au Yeung, Maggie Siu

They composed this one really well! Having two "black" clothings on the two sides and a totally opposite colour on the reverse. Looks awesome! :)

November
Bowie Lam, Gigi Lai, Ada Choi, Moses Chan

At first I was like, why did they pair them like that?! Shouldn't it be Moses and Gigi? LOL! Then I remember that Bowie and Gigi were the famous couple in War & Beauty. I don't like this as much as October's mainly because of the colours - Ada shouldn't have also worn black if Gigi wore red....

December
Amigo Chui, Matthew Ko, Jason Chan, Benjamin Yuen, Edwin Siu, Stephen Huyhn

The structure of this photo isn't bad at all. What ruined it was Liza's attempt to smile and her awkward pose. I love Amigo's expression the most - it's so firm, and it reminds me of those great paintings haha!

Now, looking back at all the designs, all the backgrounds are just simply one colour - I think thats why the results of the pictures came out so well (or the photographer's a genius LOL!) Which month do you like the best?

41st TVB Anniversary Awards Ceremony

Best Actor
Ha Yu - Moonlight Resonance

I'm SUPER happy that Ha Yu won this award :D And super glad that Raymond didn't :P (Sorry Raymond fans, but I don't think it was his turn yet!) Ha Yu shows that someone who won the "Best Supporting Award" a few years ago can comeback and win the "Best Actor/Actress" award. He did a really good job in Moonlight and totally deserves this award. Congrats!

Best Actress
Michelle Yim - Moonlight Resonance

Congrats Michelle! Her evil role got her this award - although she should've gotten it ages ago... but it's not too late! ^^

Most Improved Actor
Wong Cho Lam - Best Selling Secrets, Super Trio Supreme, D.I.E, Miss Hong Kong 2008

No offence, but why won't TVB give this award to Cho Lam? LOL! He has improved so much - especially as host and is so funny! Some say he is the next Eric Tsang, what do you think? Looking forward to TVB giving him bigger roles in series though... but some reasons it seems weird? Hmmm.

Most Improved Actress
Nancy Wu - Wars of In-Laws II, D.I.E, Legend of the Demigods, The Silver Chamber of Sorrows, Strictly Come Dancing 2

I'm really happy that Nancy won this award too! :D It's this year that sooo many artistes are finally getting the award that they deserve! Nancy has actually improved AGES ago, but something is telling me that TVB gave her this award because she did really well in the dance competition. Hopefully, TVB will give her much bigger roles that what she is getting previously.

Best Supporting Actor
Wayne Lai - The Gentle Crackdown II

See what I mean? Wayne had his name written all over this award for a number of years, but never got it :( Luckily, TVB finally notices and allows him to take it home!

Best Supporting Actress
Tavia Yeung - Moonlight Resonance

Omg, I still remember the hype that Tavia might get "Most Improved" haha and now all fans, I believe are happy - Tavia won the "Best Supporting" award! :D She and Shirley (both Yeungs) are the only ones who won "Most Improved" and "Best Supporting" - what a coincidence! Haha. But Tavia gets a bit more luck, she still gets the chance to lead series, whereas Shirley..... :(

Favourite Male Character
Raymond Lam as "Gam Wing Ho" - Moonlight Resonance

I really hope Raymond isn't what reporters made him out to be - "not happy with two awards", because it's stuck on my mind. I'm glad that Raymond didn't get "Best Actor" because his role as "Goon Ga Jai" wasn't anything outstanding. I believe anyone could've played that.

Favourite Female Character
Lee Sze Kei as "Chung Siu Hor" - Moonlight Resonance

I'm happy for Sze Kei Jie! :P Her role as "Chung Siu Hor" was great!

Best Series
Moonlight Resonance

Surprise! Surprise! Second year in a row~ It somewhat bothers me that the Moonlight series took home so many awards. It makes it seem like they only need to produce one good series to win awards at the Anniversary. It's like if your series wasn't good enough, there was no hope in getting awards...

Lifetime Achievement Award
Paul Chun

Awww congrats Paul!! You really deserved it :D

Most Fashionable Artiste
Myolie Wu

Seriously, how random is this award?! Bit ironic seeing that is what Myolie wore on the night LOL. Haha, I know... but I couldn't help but pull the leg. Though... I have seen other artistes dress better overall.

TVB.com Most Popular Artiste
Raymond Lam

This wasn't much of a surprise either and I didn't think it was necessary to have this award as well. It's quite obvious who was going to get the award lol.

Best Presenter
Susie Wong - So Good

Best Variety Show
The Story of a Million People

Most Enjoyable Value Program
The Art of Cantonese Opera

So... what did you think of the awards? I'm very happy with the overall awards. It's not much of a surprise - which is good! Those who won deserved it :D

The Gem Of Life [First Thoughts]

First I would like to apologise for the lack of updates and no notice why I have "disappeared" for almost two weeks. It is because school has started, and this school year is very important to me. It will determine what UAI I will get, and thus see if I can get into the university I desire. So it has pretty much been study study all night, leaving me with very little or even hardly any time to update. Sorry! Tonight has actually been the first night "off" I've had in such a long time, because I didn't have much homework/studying to do, so that was good. And so, in that time I caught up with little bits of things over the net AND had a chance to start "The Gem Of Life" - watched the first 2 episodes! :D

Why am I watching the series anyways? The Gem Of Life is not my type of series. I wasn't into grand-productions much, but because it was Gigi's last series - I decided to give it a go.

The themevideo is an absolute disaster. I'm super disappointed about it - what a tacky themevideo for such a grand production! The themesong suits the series well though, it actually sounds "grand" and it grows on you :P

After watching the first two episodes, I must say... I am rather impressed with the opening. The personality of each character is "introduced" rather well. Though, at first I was having a toss up between Maggie and Ada's roles. Luckily, that clears up in episode 2.

In the very beginning, I love the idea of the fashion show and it was just so nicely done - everything seems so grand and when it is revealed that Ada was trying to "avoid" the artiste in with Maggie takes care of, you could immediately see the tension the two sisters (although it doesn't reveal that they are... but if you read the character profiles, you obviously know they are).

Throughout the two episodes, I am still wondering about how wealthy the family is though. It appears they are, with all the diamonds and the people they interact with, but Lee Sze Kei and John's house doesn't appear so big? Hmm, maybe I've just got the stereotypical idea that most people who are rich how massive houses like the one in Moonlight Resonance. But the fact that the 3 daughters have all moved out and have a house of their own (except Gigi at the moment), the parents don't need a massive house, right?

It's been such a long time since I have seen Ada in a series, seriously. I know she has been acting previously but I haven't seen any of them! So, seeing her appear seems sort of "awkward". I don't know why! HAHA! Same with Gigi, it's been soooo long since I've seen her. The last series I watched of Gigi was The Ultimate Crime Fighter and because she looks "similar" to her role in there, she so reminds me of "Jing Jing" :P

I find Wong Hei rather adorable actually! His role is so cute, just following John (which by the way, I am SO glad that he's a nice person in the series!) around and helping the 3 sisters whenever possible.

I'm looking forward to how this super long series manages to pull up the ratings and keep them up. Let's just hope it doesn't get draggy and will have a good storyline throughout the massive 80 episodes.

Are you watching Gem? Are you liking it so far?

Do You Blame Me For Being Annoyed?

Note that this is purely my feelings and thoughts about these new series, so I hope no one gets offended by them. Thanks!

I'm so annoyed with TVB right now. I hate their choice of cast for the latest series AND sales presentation. Ok, the sales presentations might not become actual series, but at the rate the news is going, I can't even tell which is which now. One for sure is the overrated Charmaine Sheh's "宮心計" (original title: "劉三好") which will start filming in February next year.

This is the part of year which I love - new series with sales presentations, calendar, anniversary, etc etc; but I am starting to get so fed up. Yes, mainly because I am a Shirley Yeung fan. Every fan wants their favourite artiste to take part in this big "celebration" in at least some way, right? Shirley was only nominated in one small award at the anniversary this year - the "TVB Popularity Blog" award, but she soon got out after the second week or so. Then I thought, oh well... there's always next year for the awards. Fine!

I then thought Shirley would take part in a series, at least as second lead - because it doesn't seem soon that TVB is going to give her a leading part, dammit! I thought there was a big chance she would be in "D.I.E 2" paired up with Edwin Siu, but it seems they cut her out (well at least where I see it at this moment).

And now just take a look at the series being filmed (ie. the new ones, not the ones already completed filming). They're all the same people!!

Tavia Yeung. I love her, but I don't want to see her in so much series! Her name keeps popping up in so many series - there is already three series stuck to her name, and I'm sure there will be more. There was this period of time where I did not like her, and that feeling is coming back.... Moses Chan also, I seriously love Moses and am so happy that he is getting good roles, but there seriously like 5 series to his name o_O In asianfanatics, someone said you'll see more of Myolie Wu and Sunny Chan, but it seems like we'll see more of the golden couple in "Moonlight Resonance"!

Even Toby has two series to her name! One particular is Raymond Lam and Bosco Wong's "mainland" series. I swear if she is lead...... lol. It's these series I just pray that Shirley will have a part in! :(

Where's Bernice?
Where's Sammul?
Where's Sharon?
etc.

TVB needs a variety of people!! Some people are filming series one after the other whereas some.... sit and wait for years. Do you blame me for being so annoyed??

Feel free to rant on about your "dislikings" too :P But please, enough of the Raymond-Linda, Bosco-Tavia, Ron-Tavia, Raymond-Tavia (hint: all Tavia!) pairings. I know you guys aren't sick, but I am.

Album Review: "Capricorn"

Title: 魔杰座 (Capricorn)
Singer: Jay Chou
Tracks: 11
Language: Mandarin
Released: October 15th, 2008
Recommended (My Favourite) Tracks: #1, 2, 5, 7, 10, 11

1. 龍戰騎士
2. 給我一首歌的時間
3. 蛇舞
4. 花海
5. 魔術先生
6. 說好的幸福呢
7. 蘭亭序
8. 流浪詩人
9. 時光機
10. 乔克叔叔
11. 稻香

I have always admired Jay's singing but wasn't very fond of him not saying his lyrics clear - but maybe that's why makes him unique? Nonetheless, he is still a good singer. Whenever new songs come out, and they are singers I don't mind listening to, I give it a try. I first heard his new song #2. 給我一首歌的時間 and I loved it! So therefore, I wanted to see how his new album went.

It sure did not disappoint me, so I'm quite happy about that. When singers release new albums, some people tend to compare their new album to their previous. Yes, their works might be a little different but I like changes. I don't like to compare their old to their new. I do like some of Jay's previous songs (numerous actually) but I want to keep my mind open to these new songs. I want to hear something new and refreshing. I think I got that :)

In "Capricorn", there is a number of different "styles" or "themes". #11. 稻香 and #8. 流浪詩人 are relaxing country-like songs whereas #7. 蘭亭序 has a touch of the "asian" feeling to it. Not forgetting the primary theme of this new album - "magic" and songs which cover this is the obvious #5. 魔術先生 - which I did not like at first, but the more I listened to it, the more I enjoyed it! However, I would still fast forward the front part where they speak....

One particular part I absolutely love is the "pause" in #11. 稻香! I don't know why, but I just really like the pause, and how the song comes back in sounds great! :D

I can so picture some of these songs used as a background to a movie, performance or whatever. Especially #1. 龍戰騎士 in a war fighting scene - with no sounds, just this song playing. That would be pretty cool I reckon!

Overall, I have enjoyed listening to this album and I hope you do too!

My Comments

I'm going to give Moonlight a 10 because I truly enjoyed the series a lot. I know many people have complained that Linda cried too much in the series and that the Raymond-Linda-Bosco-Claire story was boring.... and I couldn't agree more, but after finishing the series - it really wasn't that bad. I could bear it! Haha.

I'm also extremely happy that Moonlight was such a successful series (even better than Heart :P) and reaching the record of 50PTS! Congrats once again! The storyline was really good despite the fact that I saw some very similar traits of Heart in Moonlight. Doesn't matter, what do you call a sequel then?

Anyways, what I'm impressed about is are the use of songs throughout the series. They used such warm and memorable songs which are great sing-a-longs since everyone pretty much knows all of them! ^^

Ok, onto the characters. Ha Yu and Lee Sze Kei once again performed extremely well. Towards the end, I thought the fact they got back together was a great idea, but they seemed to make it "corny". LOL! However, it was sweet.

I am so upset about Moses and Tavia! There was absolutely not enough screen time for them at all! I mean, one point it was clearly pointed out that Moses treated Tavia like a sister, and even after Moses broke up with Tavia, there wasn't much "progress" between the couple. Then, all of a sudden, BAM! The two are a couple? =.= I want to see how Moses fell for Tavia and the course of the two getting back together. Don't you reckon they can cut back on Raymond and Linda's screen time and add a few more Movia scenes? :P That'll be good hehe.

I'm really happy for Raymond and Linda - how they got together. I was actually upset that Linda "went back" to Bosco when he came back from England. I was going to rant about how before Bosco showed up Linda liked Raymond but when Bosco showed up, she likes him, and then when he left, Linda fell for Raymond again but when Bosco comes back again, she likes him AGAIN! Come on! Luckily, TVB did not do that and made Linda stick by Raymond. I'm happy that Linda chose the right guy because I thought she would really end up with Bosco! Haha! The ending was super cute as well.

Lai Lok Yi and Kate are one strange couple, but I get the feeling that Kate did not really like either Moses or Lok Yi - but their money. Kate did eventually become good in the end, but I don't reckon she pulled off the "really changing" part. I don't know, she still didn't show me that she loved Lok Yi when she revealed Michelle's evil doings to everyone.... until the very end.

Fala and Dexter's story was soooo cute! I loved how he waited for her at work - when he didn't have anything to do, but wouldn't tell her anything! It's was really good how Fala was the youngest (and mute), but was the first one to marry! Shows that even people with obvious flaws can get married to someone who they love and that person loves them too.

TVB chose the [sort of] right people to play the villains in Moonlight. Michelle was obvious a fantastic choice but Kate - yes, it was definitely a good role to give her to prove to the audience that she can play other roles but (this is so personal lol) if only they gave Kate's role as to Shirley! xD How would that change the view of the series?

I almost forgot my memorable mention: Lee Heung Kam and Suzanna Kwan! In the beginning of the series, Heung Kam was extremely annoying - just like Suzanna. I didn't like how Lee Heung Kam "looked" because she (i'm sorry) "fake". I don't why but that's what I felt at first. Luckily, as the series progressed, she was WOW. I loved her scenes when she yelled at Michelle and the one at Suzanna - I was mad cheering her on! x) Such a shame she had to go in the series though! :( And one complaint overall, I didn't like how she had a "favourite grandchild" - that person being Raymond. As for Suzanna, omg she is one actress isn't she? She can be SUPER annoying it's not funny! I liked her change though ^^ From a money lover to a family lover.

Is this series worth watching? Most definitely. I believe this series was better than it's prequel "Heart Of Greed"!

Awards

Best Actor: Moses Chan & Ha Yu
This was a tough one, both did an excellent job at portraying their roles... so they both deserve the award!

Best Actress: Tavia Yeung
Although you can say Tavia was the one who really improved, I think she just did a brilliant job and was just wanting for TVB to give her a role that shows just how good an actress she is!

Most Improved Actor: Raymond Lam
Raymond's role as "Goon Ga Jai" was really nothing special but I liked his attitude and simply the way how he treats his family. Nonetheless, Raymond is a good actor.

Most Improved Actress: Kate Tsui
I was looking forward to see Kate "evil" and she showed me she can be a villain! I hated her at specific points and thats what I look to see if that specific actor/actress can make me hate them - shows that they have done their job properly :P

Best Couple: Moses Chan & Tavia Yeung

Best Villain: Michelle Yim
Michelle is a fantastic actress! Her role as "Yan Hung" was pulled off by far. I'm really happy that TVB gave Michelle the right role after seeing how well she did in "The Brink Of Law".

Extraordinary Award: Fala Chen
I have to give this award to Fala - I think this is my favourite role of hers so far. She really did do really well as a mute and she improved a lot too!

The 'What The..' Award: Wayne Lai
I love Wayne.... but why such a small role? :(

Favourite Scene: The ending :)

Moonlight Resonance [Moses & Tavia Moments] - Episode 40

Ha Yu's birthday wish: "我身體比你好, 你死得比我早" which is saying that he has done many bad things in the past and has left Hor Ma (Lee Sze Kei) for many years, so he wants to be healthy because he rather Hor Ma leave him but he will never leave her. The children play a game in couples!

It's Tavia's birthday and everyone has gotten her a present except Moses himself. He still doesn't give her a present after the party and hurries off quickly leaving Tavia alone.

Tavia did not go to the concert because her friend could not make it, so therefore she bought food and decided to visit her friend at work. While waiting, Moses appears! He tells her that the facial expression she has now looks like what happened many years ago. When Tavia was little, a boy named Tony gave her a big soft toy, so she told her family that he liked her, but in fact, the toy wasn't only from Tony but from a total of 40 odd people including the class teacher!

Tavia: Well if a boy gave such a big toy to a girl, he must....
Chan Hoi Yee (Tavia's friend): There must be something going on. (She puts a large teddy bear next to her).

Moses, along with Chan Hoi Yee had actually played a trick on Tavia. The couple continue to chat on and even talk about their future. Moses suggests that they have 4 girls and 3 boys, but if they have too many girls, they might get jealous. For example, if it's their daughter's birthday and he buys her a toy, mum (Tavia) will get jealous.... but if it's mum's birthday, their daughters will get jealous.

While talking, Moses starts to doze off..... he's getting tired.

".... maybe having boys are better, but if we have boys, they better not be like me - whose lights can turn off.... turn off any minute."

A light turns off.

Four years later. Moses and Tavia have gotten married and have 2 children!

Tavia: It's all your fault. You keep saying that your lights will turn off so we go here and there checking if you're alright - now we're late!
Moses: Wife, for you, I have to check to see if my body is well because I won't let my lights turn off.
Tavia: Lights turning off? It's because you always say it, I'm having 2 children in 3 years! The doctors have said you passed your "emergency period", so don't think I will have anymore children for you!
Moses: You'll be used to it soon. Doctors say, you're like a pig!
Tavia: You're a pig!

A warming MV which flashbacks of the couples and the whole family singing Teresa Teng's 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart). A happy ending! :D
